Since 1923 the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) has celebrated excellence in book design with an annual design competition called 50 Books / 50 Covers. Each Spring, the one hundred best book designs of the previous year are chosen from nearly a thousand entries.
Anti Design Festival
The infamous Neville Brody has decided to speak up against design conferences. His Research Studios is putting on the Anti Design Festival in London 9.18 to 9.26 counter to the London Design Festival. This is a pretty brave and needed reaction to the “industry” and the ever increasing number of design conferences. Research Studios is now taking submissions of work. Below are a few prompts that can be a source of inspiration.

“We want you to design a poster for the future movie of your dreams. It could be an adaptation of a book that hasn’t been written, or the biopic of a man who never lived.
Your poster might be purely typographic, it could be illustrative, or photo-composite – the choice is yours but remember: we want to see a future film poster not a reworking of today’s clichés.”
