What happened to the design blog?

This is a question we are seriously asking ourselves these days. As you may have noticed GraphicHug has recently come-back from a long hiatus and we can’t help but notice that the web-publishing landscape has changed radically. Did everyone retreat to Tumblr? Even many of our favorite Tumblrs aren’t active. It is at a time like this that we must support our fellow independent design publishers! So here are a few of our favorites!

Sight Unseen

Started by former I.D. Magazine editors Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer in 2009, Sight Unseen is a great example of a web publication transforming and defining their own space.

This one’s not a strict design blog, but rather a tasteful collection of thoughts and writings about contemporary Japanese culture. One of our dearest friends Ian Lynam is the Art Director and contributing editor there. He writes insightful essays along with W. David Marx and Matt Treyvaud.

The brainchild of writer Geoff Manaugh who has been writing about urban planning, architecture, and design since 2004. The site is a treasure trove of intelligent research on all topics related to design. Manaugh has also published a great book that compiles and expands upon the material posted on the site (we do not receive money for promoting this book).
