One of the Method SF visual designers sent this out today, so Jay and LA, and I’m sure quite a few more of you have already seen this. I thought it was worth sharing with everyone else who hasn’t checked it out. It’s the new Identity and Branding system for the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) here in New York, created by Michael Bierut/Pentagram.
This geometric-san-counter “style” of typography definitely falls into the “overused” bucket amongst the general design community at this point, but its still really refreshing to see a visual execution like this applied to something so public. Overall I think its rad. Fresh color palette. Clean secondary supporting typography. Great extension of an entire branding system. (Though, I think their website pales a bit compared to all of the other applications.) via Pentagram’s blog

Yeah, Tomi did send this out today. Let’s not forget our buddy Kai Salmela and all his hard work on the signage. You can see pictures of Kai on this particular Pentagram blog post in the spinning doors and sporting a MAD tie. I remember talking to Kai a few times online a few weeks ago and how all this signage work was driving him – you guessed it – mad.
Yeah, good work Kai. I agree Ryan, no more san-counter chubbiness. I cannot bear to take anymore. BUT. This is a nice execution and looking forward to seeing it more frequently live and direct.
